A report from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) who writes that rising levels of piracy rates are from the websites direct-download, has been denied by Rapidshare. In this case, the name Rapidshare has been humiliated by the RIAA.
Markmonitor also claims that the main weapon of piracy today is the direct-download sites such as RapidShare. Similarly, as quoted by the Inquirer, Friday (01/14/2011).
Today (14 / 1), Rapidshare behind the attack, saying that they have read the report from MarkMonitor which called Rapidshare site as a platform for the world's largest online piracy.
Rapidshare called the report as 'slanderous', and they are considering to sue MarkMonitor.
"Rapidshare is the official company that offers to its customers, secure data storage, fast, and easy," said party Rapidshare.
A spokesman of the party said that Markmonitor conclude Rapidshare Rapidshare as the site of the largest digital piracy, only to see based on the number of visits of the website. Markmonitor ignore the fact that millions of people use Rapidshare for different interests.
"Customers specifically using Rapidshare to to share photos, videos and personal documents, or just simply to copy their hard drive files. Then, our business clients to use Rapidshare to exchange / deliver large files to their colleagues," said party Rapidshare.
Meanwhile, Te Smith, Vice President of Communications of Markmonitor, said that he does not mention YouTube as the site of the hijackers, as they have a procedure whereby a trademark owner can close the materials that are published by others without their permission.
However, Rapidshare is actually also have a procedure like that, to protect copyright.
"We have security procedures like that. Then, we also have taken many steps to prevent and fight against copyright infringement," said party Rapidshare.
Now Rapidshare will perform steps to refute charges of this. The company is trying to explain to the U.S. government about the main goal of their company.

I agree. Rapidshare has several legit, common everyday uses. They are just trying to censor the internet and blame other companies for people who illegally upload and download.
